Announcements for the week of July 1, 2018

CHANCEL FLOWERS THIS MORNING are given by the Powell Family to the glory of God and in honor of Nikki, Allen and Naomi Jordan.

EXTENDING THE TABLE this morning will welcome Nikki, Allen, and Naomi Jordan, and their friends Mike and Kay Killar and children, missionaries in Thailand.  Please be sure to join us in Fellowship Hall after the service today to learn more about their ministry.

COME TO “THE WELL.” The Well is a community center initiated by Hopewell UMC that offers services such as support groups, job training, and after-school activities and tutoring, in conjunction with and complimenting already existing local programs.  It is located at 107 W. Lancaster Avenue in Downingtown Borough.  Renovations are on-going on the areas already in use and on apartment units that will be used for Bridge of Hope families.  The Mission Committee is organizing crews to join The Well’s regular monthly workdays on Saturdays July 21 and August 18 from 8:00am – 4:00pm.  All skill levels are welcome!! A sign-up sheet is waiting for YOU at the welcome center.  Please contact Kevin Zeeger if you have any questions.

OUR PRELUDE SOLOIST THIS MORNNG, Magdalene Ayukachale, explains that singing is the balm of Gilead in her home Presbyterian Church of Cameroon (PCC) where the service is filled with song. The tunes she sings today are familiar to us as the PCC was begun by missionaries from Basel, Switzerland in 1886. Today Cameroon is suffering from internal conflict between the English and French-speaking parts of the country. Concerns for family and friends still in Cameroon are heavy on the Ayukachales’ hearts.

HELP NEEDED FOR VBS PREPARATIONS:  Please take home a kit to create a paper chain or cut out pre-printed silhouettes for children to decorate.  See Carolyn Smith or Amy Lisk to take home a craft kit after worship.  We also need empty paper towel roll donations for our craft station.  Thank you.

SUMMER CHILDREN’S WORSHIP is for kids age 4 through entering 2nd grade in Rooms 107-109. Sign up to teach on the board next to the Welcome Center. Lessons designed around simple art project or science demos are available from Amy Lisk. Grab a partner, and volunteer!

“COME AS YOU ARE CHOIR” – What is that?  During the summer, we invite people who wonder about singing in the choir to give it a try!  Each week throughout the summer, we gather in the choir room at 9 am to ready ourselves to sing a simple selection to resonate with the scripture and message in the worship service.  If you have thought, “I’d like to try singing in the choir,” then come as you are—all voices and ages welcome!  Please join us!

NURSERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED.  One volunteer is needed weekly to serve with Ann Lash in the infant room. Please sign up on the calendar outside the nursery to support this important ministry.

YOUTH CANOE TRIP.  On July 6, we will hold our rescheduled canoe trip. Spaces are still available, so please sign up to spend the afternoon on the Brandywine. We will depart from the parking lot of the Downingtown police station’s boat launch at 1pm and will have pick up around 4pm at Stroud Preserve in West Chester. No cost!! Let Amy Lisk know if you can come!

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE.  The contribution period for our two-year campaign ended on June 30, and the campaign team would like to thank you, the CPC community, for putting the “committed” into Committed To Our Future.  Due to your steady support throughout the campaign, including a surge during our “home stretch,” we have met our pledge goal of $510,000!  (This includes $7,000 raised during our recent parking-lot-by-the-square-yard effort.)  Although the fund-raising phase is officially closed, the work is not yet complete, and any additional donations are certainly welcome.  We will keep you updated on the bids and schedule for the parking lot renovation.  And we look forward to one final celebration in the fall.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED.  In order to keep Café Central going for the summer, we need volunteers to sign up for July and August.  Please stop by the bulletin board next to the Welcome Center.  Thank you!

THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE requests prayers and suggestions as we work to fill leadership positions.  If you know a member who is called (or should be) to serve as an Elder, Deacon, or Trustee, please let us know!  You may submit names and committee recommendations in the Officer Nomination Box at the Welcome Center.  Thank you in advance for your support and your prayers!
