CHANCEL FLOWERS THIS MORNNG are given by Jeff and Debbie Shupp to the glory of God and in honor of their anniversary.
A CHILD AND YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING will be taught by Pastor Emily on Sunday, July 14, following worship. All those serving with children in VBS, Godly Play, Children’s Worship or Wonder are strongly encouraged to take this training. New information regarding our emergency response plan will be included. Please RSVP to the church office or to [email protected] if you plan to attend.
THE SERMON SERIES FOR JULY is inspired by the book HELP, THANKS, WOW by Anne Lamott, Penguin Books Ltd, copyright 2012.
VOLUNTEER TO BE A LITURGY LEADER. Would you like to be more involved in our wonderful worship services? We want to invite you to take a new step into worship by volunteering to help deliver the liturgy to the church. Examples include delivering the scripture before the sermon, reading a prayer, or helping deliver announcements every so often (i.e. not every week). Time commitment is minimal, but the effect of having you join us in the leadership of our worship services will be huge! Contact Jessica Clark-Weikel with any questions or to volunteer. Email [email protected]
COME AS YOU ARE CHOIR. Come to the choir room on Sundays at 9:00 am to prepare an easy-to-sing anthem for the service. If you have ALWAYS thought, “I’d like to try singing in the choir,” then come as you are—all voices and ages welcome!
CPC FELLOWSHIP EVENT. Sign up for LASER TAG on Sunday, July 14, 5pm-midnight. We can take 30 people to play. Middle and High school students, friends, and adults are invited to join us for this really fun night playing together. It’s a private event for our church, so we need to pull together a big group. Cost will be $30 per person, which covers 4 hours of laser tag games, pizza and snacks. On our way home, we stop at Sonic for ice cream–bring $$ for that treat. Talk to or email or text Amy Lisk to get signed up or if you have questions. DRIVERS needed!! Bring a friend!
80 PLASTIC MILK, JUICE OR CREAMER BOTTLES are needed for a craft for VBS, which begins July 22. That is a lot of bottles! And not a lot of time to collect that many, so please begin now! Pint and quart (preferred) or half-gallon containers can all be used. Ask a friend to help us collect, too! Drop off your donations, marked VBS, in the church office. Thank you!
TRANSITIONAL PASTORAL ASSOCIATE. Personnel and Session have been busy in our search for our Transitional Pastoral Associate, and we are so pleased to report success! We joyfully announce the addition of the Reverend Jenny Warren as Central’s new Transitional Pastoral Associate, who will be serving with the Reverend Emily Chudy. Pastor Jenny is completing an assignment now, which will permit her to come to Central on September 1, 2019 in this half time role. The timing couldn’t be better, since our church will begin to stir with exciting new fall activities at that time.
The Rev. Jenny Warren comes to serve us from neighboring New Castle Presbytery. Her roots are in Donegal, however, as a child of Westminster Presbyterian in West Chester, and coming through Donegal Presbytery’s Candidates’ Committee. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in 1980, and her M.Div. from Princeton Seminary in 1986. She was ordained that year by New Castle Presbytery, where she has served ever since, except for a brief sojourn in Baltimore Presbytery. She has served as an Associate Pastor, a solo Designated Pastor, a Parish Associate, and is now finishing her sixth Interim Pastor position. Pastor Jenny is married to Mark Olson, and they have a family of five grown children, with various spouses and beloveds and pets, and four grandchildren.
Pastor Jenny’s wide range of skills, strengths, and experiences are a great match for our church at this time. Her focus on Worship, Pastoral Care, and Mission will blend well with the areas where Pastor Emily needs to spend her time. We are grateful that we will have Pastor Jenny to provide support to Pastor Emily and Central while we work through the Strategic Plan this fall and the next Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC) in 2020, as we search for a permanent pastor to serve with Pastor Emily.
