Announcements for the week of September 1, 2019

CHANCEL FLOWERS THIS MORNING are given by Peggy Mahan, in loving memory of Bob Mahan.

JOIN US THIS MORNING FOR EXTENDING THE TABLE right after worship in Fellowship Hall.  We urge you to take the opportunity to learn from the folks of Aidan’s Heart Foundation about how you can help if you find yourself in the middle of an emergency situation such as sudden cardiac arrest. SCA is the leading cause of death in the US, the #1 killer of student athletes, and contributes to the leading cause of death among youth under the age of 25.  Learn how you can help.

A WONDER! KICK-OFF PICNIC will be held this Wednesday, September 4, at 6pm.  Come out for an evening of fellowship and learn more about the upcoming offerings for Wonder! and Grand Central Stations.  There will also be an opportunity for you to meet Rev. Jenny Warren, our new Transitional Pastoral Associate.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP by signing up at the Welcome Center or calling the office. If the weather is nice, be sure to bring your folding chairs or blanket.

THE CHURCH OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED on Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day. Regular office hours will resume on September 3:  Monday thru Thursday, 8:30am-4:30pm and Friday, 8:30am-2pm.

KIDS CENTRAL PRESCHOOL has an opening for a Teacher’s Assistant in our Three’s class.  If you are interested in spending your Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday mornings helping to teach and nurture a group of three year olds, please contact Director Robin Chiavetta at 610-269-0297.

YOUTH POOL PARTY, from 2-4PM on Sunday, Sept 8.  Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us and enjoy a last gasp of summer. If you’d like, you can bring a snack or drink to share.

PRAYERS FOR REV. DR. PETER AYUKACHALE as he travels to Cameroon to spend a month at the Kembong Sanctuary for Orphans. Peter will be searching for homes for students that cannot be accommodated by the limited resources of the orphanage, which is supported by our CPC Mission Committee. Prayers for safety and his ministry.

DO YOU LOVE TO COOK? The high school youth group has dinner as part of our twice monthly gatherings. Volunteers are invited to sign up to bring dinner for about 8 high school students and leaders on 2nd and 4th Mondays. We’d love to have lots of different folks involved with our group. Cooks would be invited to eat and hang out with us, even share some of your story if you’d like. Please talk to Amy Lisk or contact the church office if you’d like to provide a meal.

CALLING ALL 3rd-5th GRADERS!  Our “Second Fridays” Youth Group would love to have you! We meet the 2nd Friday of every month from September-May.  Our first meeting will be Friday September 13, from 6:30-8pm at the church.  Last year, our activities included a hayride, rock climbing, swimming, and fun arts and crafts.  Friends are welcome as well, as long as a permission slip is filled out which can be found on the church’s website. If you are able to join or have any questions, please email or call Adam Anders.  Hope to see you there!

WOODWIND ENSEMBLE – Calling all current and former players of flutes, clarinets, oboes, and bassoons! We’d love to hear more of your musical talents! If you’d like to participate in CPC’s woodwind ensemble please contact Jessica Clark-Weikel.  Time commitment is every 3rd Sunday after church for 45 minutes.

WE WELCOME REV. JENNY WARREN to the worship and work of our church as she joins our staff today in the position of Transitional Pastoral Associate. Pastor Jenny’s wide range of skills, strengths, and experiences are a great match for our church at this time. Her focus on Worship, Pastoral Care, and Mission will blend well with the areas where Pastor Emily needs to spend her time. We are grateful that we will have Pastor Jenny to provide support to Pastor Emily and Central.

A NEW MEMBERS CLASS will be held on Sunday, September 15, at 10:45am for anyone interested in joining Central Presbyterian Church, or for those who have questions about membership or wish to know more about the work and worship of the church.  Please RSVP to the church office, 610-269-1576 or to Nancy Hilton at [email protected] no later than September 9. Reading materials will be sent to you as soon as you RSVP.  Please let us know if you will need childcare.  New members will be received in worship September 22.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE AN ACOLYTE?  Students entering 4th, 5th, and 6th grades are invited to join our Acolyte Team.  This is a very special way to serve and contribute by bringing the “light” into worship on Sunday morning and then carrying it out after worship, symbolizing the light of Christ going out into the world.  If interested, contact Jane Beam at [email protected] or by phone at 610-273-2998. Training and instruction will be provided in early fall for interested students.
